Obesity
and alcoholism have a lot in common. The overeater can't stop eating,
even when not hungry, and the alcoholic can't stop drinking.
Their satiety centers are altered and
don't function correctly. One of the causes may well be the
derivation of pleasure from this behavior learned at a young age (sugar
soda instead of water) along with a probable genetic predisposition.
There
is a northern Russian and Anglo Saxon habit of drinking till you pass
out that just does not exist elsewhere.
The
best definition of alcoholism resides in the notion of
control loss. Quantity is not in the definition.
